Today's dinner was the synthesis of two random ideas. The first is "Billings' second annual pick a meal contest" in which kids submit menu ideas for meals we've never had before; I choose a winner based on what makes the most sense, budget constraints, etc. The second idea highlights the exceptional food that Vermont produces. Below is the menu with a few of the folks who helped produce our dinner: Shepherds Pie submitted by Isabelle from Cabin 1.
Shepherds pie - Corn, potatoes and onions from Crossroad Farm, Thetford. Beef from VT Highland Beef, Orleans.
Salad - Lettuce and tomatoes from Crossroad Farm
Bread from Colatina bakery, Bradford.
Butter from Cabot, Cabot, duh.
Ice Cream from Strafford Organic Creamery, Strafford.
Blueberries from Green Mountain Orchards, Putney.
Maple Syrup from Harold Carleton, Newbury.
Milk from Monument Farms Dairy, Middlebury
Here's a map

Casey thank you for supporting Vermont Farms, I am constantly impressed with the job you are doing for camp. You are proving that children's nutrition does not have to be dull or flavorless. It is also great to see my old college roommate (Jamie) featured in your blog. Keep up the great work old friend.
ReplyDeleteCasey, thank you so much for your blog. it's a really nice way to feel a bit connected to our infrequent letter-writing camper. Thanks for making the food fresh and local. Signed, California Mom
